This week in EDCI 336 we looked at several different digital resources!! I was mostly intrigued by the coding websites, which is crazy since coding is not my forte, or so I thought!! I actually really enjoyed playing around on all of the platforms our instructor provided; however, code offers some really great beginner tools and activities for exploring the world of coding.

While exploring this website, I stumbled upon the Music Lab: Jam Session. This activity takes well-known songs and provides a creative space for students to customize a melody using code. This activity is a great example of what educators could use as fun and interactive ways to introduce coding to younger students.

Another digital resource we used in class is called Scratch. Reflecting on this platform, I found it fairly easy to use once I practiced repeatedly. Initially, it was a little bit overwhelming!! There are some really great tutorials linked in the hyperlink! Scratch is a design studio that students can use to make moving graphics and visuals through code. Another example of a useful tool for coding beginners!

Here is a screenshot of the code I was creating on Scratch.

Lastly, I would like to share a website that was shared with me by my instructor. Coding with Primary Students is a great resource to use when beginning to teach coding. This website offers BC Curriculum connections for K-3 and provides excellent starting tools. Definitely worth checking out.

Found on the code website as well as the Coding for Primary Students website.

Coding is something that everyone should have some understanding of. Especially as we grow as a society and technology advances. My coding journey is just beginning. With that, though, I look forward to educating myself and expanding my horizons when it comes to coding. I will definitely be constantly searching for options for my future students to create their own coding projects through project- based learning.
